In my musical journey, I had the privilege to be taught and inspired by some great teachers and mentors as well as performing alongside incredible musicians and songwriters. I hope I am able to take this opportunity to inspire students to the possibilities that a life in music can bring.
I was born in Melbourne and in my early teens I had the privilege to live in Northern Italy for several years. On my return to Australia I pursued my passion towards drums and percussion.
While at high school, I was invited to join the Percy Grainger Youth Orchestra, which was an amazing experience that gave me a broader appreciation, understanding and proficiency in music. Throughout my high school years, I developed a goal and a dream to attend the Victoria College of The Arts in Melbourne where I could study music and the drum-set every day. I eventually had the opportunity to audition at the VCA and to my surprise I was successful. This was the beginning of my full time musical career.
After graduating, I began to develop and take part in Melbourne’s live music scene, which really took shape when I started performing with many different groups across many styles that included; reggae, ska, blues, soul, jazz and even electronic music. My versatility as a musician and imagination soon began to be noticed and I was asked to join the alternative-rock band ‘Dry’. This band soon landed a record deal with Mushroom Records. It was an incredible experience!
I have also had the privileged experience as a past endorsee with Yamaha drums to travel to Japan to visit the Sakae Rhythm Factory in Osaka. This is where I was able to build my own custom snare drum from scratch. That was an incredible feeling! I have been lucky to experience so much from music that I still continue to perform and record music every day.
My story though is not as significant as my passion for sharing and planting the seed of curiosity in learning about music. This is where the basis of my music teaching begins. I truly believe everyone has musical talent that with a little recognition can be developed through encouragement, guidance and support. Nurturing and developing musical appreciation in students from a young age through the exploration of musical styles and cultures is extremely important. My musical experience and diversity has allowed me to create music studies and programs that reflect a true commitment towards developing the love of music across all ages and skill levels.
My passion for teaching comes from nothing more than simply being involved in music. It has helped me to inspire and motivate many while providing the expertise required to teach successful music studies. My passion for sharing knowledge has granted me the opportunity in publishing two drum study books, which will hopefully inspire many students to pursue their own musical journey.
Music is a gift, especially during life’s many changes. Listening and participating in music is a great way to get away from it all while also feeling we are always returning home.
Namaste - thank you
for your time,
